Omega Chronometer Electronic f 300 Hz Seamaster CD 198.001 from 1972

For sale is an Omega CD 198.001.

The Omega CD 198.001 was sold by Omega in the 70s as under their electronic "f 300" collection.

Powered by the Omega calibre 1250, the calibre is essentially the copper plated version of the calibre ESA 9162 that were designed by Max Hetzel, the Swiss engineer that gave birth to the tuning fork concept.

Ebauches SA licensed the tuning fork technology from Bulova to manufacture their own tuning fork calibres.

Unlike the calibres used by Bulova, the ESA 9162 is quieter and has a thinner profile.

Moving on to the dial we are greeted with a vertically brushed champagne dial with black elements added across the dial for contrast.

The iconic Omega logo is framed with a red isosceles trapezoid as seen on other pieces from the "f 300" collection.

The watch case features a gold cap finishing that allows the wearer to enjoy the aesthetic of a solid gold watch without paying the hefty price of one.

The gold cap finishing is superior to both gold filled with gold plated finishing that tarnish easily. A very thick layer of gold is applied from the the dial side - just like how you would put a cap on your head, thus the term "Gold Cap".

The watch case is in excellent condition with common hairline scratches seen. The watch dial is free from any signs of aging. Light signs of aging can be seen on the lume of the hands. The crystal is free from scratches with the Omega logo still visible in the middle.

The watch comes on a brand new handmade top grained leather strap.
