Seiko Sportsman Calendar 889980 from 1964
For sale is a Seiko 889980.
The watch bares a similar resemblance to the early Seiko Alpinist J13043, J13049, J13079 champion 850 Alpinist and 85899.
The watch features a two toned champagne/silver two-tone sector design toned with a brown outer ring and a radial brushed finish.
There are thin, printed radial lines coming from the center of the dial to each of the small, lumed hour dots. The brown outer ring is broken by a series of small rectangles, champagne silver in color, at each of the hour markers.
A think to note about this reference over the early Seiko Alpinist (except 85899) is the arrow seconds hand. The sharp arrow hands gives the watch a rugged field watch appeal that the simple seconds hand on the early alpinist lacked.
The watch case is in well worn condition with common signs of pitting. Signs of aging can be seen on both the dial and case. A brand new crystal has been installed for clarity.
The watch comes on a brand new handmade top grained leather strap.
